Buying an electric car ADAC survey shows great interest from millennials and Gen Z
A recent survey by ADAC Autoversicherung has shown that young people under the age of 30 are particularly interested in electric cars. A full 50 percent of respondents in this age group are considering buying an electric car. These results confirm that electromobility is becoming increasingly important among the younger generation. But what exactly is driving this development and what factors are particularly important for young drivers?
High range and tailored insurance cover in demand
According to the survey, range is at the top of respondents' wish list. 38 percent of young drivers stated that a long range is particularly important to them when it comes to electric cars. The price is not insignificant, but for 33 percent of those surveyed, a favorable purchase price is in second place. Interestingly, this trend seems to be particularly pronounced among those who have already had experience with electric cars: 60 percent of those who have already driven an electric car stated that they really enjoyed driving an electric vehicle.
Insurance cover also plays a decisive role for many. 88 percent of respondents under the age of 30 consider fully comprehensive insurance to be important or even very important. Special benefits, such as battery protection or compensation for the price of a new battery in the event of a total loss, are a decisive criterion for many electric car drivers when choosing the right insurance.
Generational differences in attitudes towards electric cars
One notable point that emerges from the survey is the clear difference in the acceptance of electric cars between the various age groups. While 29 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds state that their next car will most likely be an electric car, this figure is only nine percent for the over-50s. This difference clearly shows that electric cars are particularly popular among the younger generation.
Older generations, on the other hand, are even more hesitant when it comes to switching to an electric vehicle. Only 18 percent of respondents over the age of 50 stated that they might consider an electric car. The younger generation therefore seems to view the technological shift towards electromobility not just as a trend, but as a forward-looking step.
